Slugs digging holes?

Found a hole in a very mossy part of one of our lawns yesterday, could see there was something in it, so took a photo to see what it was. A slug! Maybe something else dug the hole first and it took it over. Yuk, don't really like slugs although we do have rather alot of them.

It looks like a paler form of the Black Slug (Arion ater)

This species can cause damage in spring to seedlings of many kinds. But at this time of year its preferred diet of rotting vegetation, fungi, manure and even dead animals is more readily available, and it causes little damage in the garden.

Whatever species it is, I wonder if it is egg-laying?

I will see if I can get a closer look at what it's up to and there is no shortage of rotting vegetation, fungi etc on our garden so no wonder it's making a home here. Thanks for the id and information
