Who trashed these acorns?

Having been a bit of a Jonah with respect to the prospects for the forthcoming acorn crop I was surprised last month to find acorns raining down on me somewhat prematurely. Who did this? Ring-necked Parakeets and greysquirrels were present in the vicinity. I tend to blame the parakeets for everything that goes wrong - they attack anything green and as a result huge amounts of seeds etc (esp chestnuts) go to waste. However the acorns seem to have been dealt with rather professionally... but I can't believe a squirrel would have been so premature. Any opinions?

Cracking a shell from tip to base is typical squirrel tactics, take a magnifying glass and look for tooth marks buddy, RNP's tend to split, pick and peel bits off to get to the kernel, checking with a magnifyer is always a good second opinion to first impressions.
