| | Where about in Great Britain and Ireland are you? I was just wondering where about in the country you are, mainly 'cos I'm nosey. Don't want full addresses, as you have to be so careful, so don't post information like that, just the county would be fine. I live in Fife by the way.
If we live in the same county as other people, we could form a group and get out there and explore our wonderful countryside and then report our findings back to WAB of course . There are so many people on this site who are so knowledgeable about flora, fauna and photography that those of us who want to learn more would really benefit and what a great way to spend a day with like minded people.
Just a thought.

I'm Dunfermline, but the places I love best are Aviemore, because of the Cairngorms and Argyll & Bute because of the stunning scenery. The Highlands are just beautiful you're very lucky!

| | | Re: Where about in Great Britain and Ireland are you? Hi Mark, had a look at the map, thanks again! I hadn't realized that there was a map. Another reason why that comes in so handy is that when someone asks for an Id on a mammal, it helps to know where they are.

Tracey | The maps easy to miss. Good point about the ID thing

I vollunteer with the RSPB, so I've heard of Minsmere. I haven't been, but I've heard it's good. My local bird reserve is near Kinross. What sort of birds do you get at Minsmere? Does it have bats? Any interesting mammals? Is your interest flora or fauna? I love flora and fauna! I'm no expert, just a very keen amateur who is hoping to learn a lot more through this site.
All the best Tracey |

| | | Re: Where about in Great Britain and Ireland are you? Sounds lovely and peaceful I live in Dunfermline, which is a town in Fife. We have a large park, referred to as the glen, which is nice, but I really prefer being up north in the wilds as the scenery is just beautiful and the chance of seeing a Golden eagle is always exciting. Although having said that a White tailed eagle has been spotted from my local bird reserve twice! I wasn't there at the time

Even in the rain Campsie Fells sounds and looks from Ron's pics idillic.
You are so lucky Tracey to have golden eagles on your doorstep and maybe even get the chance to see a white tailed eagle. We had lapwings nesting in the fields last year but there are crops this year so they have gone elsewhere. |

The countryside around here is brilliant but the town leaves a lot to be desrired, too many neds, druggies and drunks. Mind you Ravens, Peregrines, Ospreys etc make up for it, a bit.

| | Re: Where about in Great Britain and Ireland are you? Hi Kayleigh,
I have to travel up north to see the Golden eagles, but it is a thrill when I do spot one. My local reserve has Lapwings nesting every year, although this year for some reason we hardly had any. I don't know why yet, but I'm hoping that next year they do better. They are lovely birds. Still jealous of where you stay, sounds lovely and tranquil, being surounded by farmland means you probably get a fair amount of birds in your area
It does sound nice where Ron lives, I haven't seen his photos yet, so I'll have a look tomorrow.
