Today we went to our first WAB meeting at Thursley and it was really interesting and good fun to put faces to so many names you see on here and they are all experts in different ways so definately learnt alot and would recommend if you get chance.

Hi Linda, I'm looking forward to the Priory meet in 2009. It was too late for me to make this years event but I am definitely going to enjoy myself at the next one

As evident from my profile I live in Yateley, Hampshire (right in the NE corner of the county on the borders with Surrey and Berkshire) Within half an hour to an hour from my house I can reach, on foot, with Chaka my ridgeback in tow and my Canon 10D in hand:
Castle Bottom Nature Reserve
Yateley Common (including the Country Park)
Hawley Common & Lake
Minley Estate and Wood (MOD Access controlled land)
Black Water Valley (including Moor Green Lakes Nature Reserve and Trilakes Country Park)
Thursley is 15 miles away, Greenham and Crookham Common NR and Baynes NR are 35 miles and The New Forest 50 miles.
Normally I would take full advantage of one or more these delightful spots almost daily but alas at the moment venturing forth is curtailed by a pesky irritating gall stone which I am waiting to have surgically removed.
C'est la vie, and usually it ain't 'alf good!
Cheers
David

| | | Re: Where about in Great Britain and Ireland are you? I live in a village called Dodworth, c3 miles west of Barnsley. The countryside around here is fantastic, and I'm hardly embarrassed to say that I'm actually 'in love' with it, if anyone can imagine what I mean. Apart from the occasional bird-twitch, I spend all my free time recording wildlife (particularly insects) within the Barnsley district and I am never bored.
Fortunately my wife is sympathetic although will knock be back in line if I get a bit too one-tracked. Which is an interesting point - how do other WABBERS relate to their spouses who may not share these interests to the same extent? |

Just had a look at the members garden thread (took a while), some beautiful gardens! I eventually found Ron's garden photos and wow, how fantastic to have a river in your garden, it's just amazing! Ron if you are reading this I'm very, very jealous! All I have is a small concrete courtyard However, since looking at all the garden photos I am feeling inspired and will be heading off to the nearest garden centre very soon
The members garden thread is brilliant!

I think everybody is going to be so jealous of where you live, and as I've been there a few times myself I can vouch that it is more beautiful than you can imagine. Might see you in August if I'm passing through that way, which I probably will, because I want to see Billy again and admire the scenery Must not forget my midge repellent

I live in the heart of the Midlothian countryside.I live quite near the villiage of Roslin famous for its chaple and castle and the Di Vinci code. Many famous people have hailed from my area including the man who set up the observatory on Ben Nevis and John Johnston who invented Bovril but most famous of all Dolly The Sheep. Midlothian has a few wooded river vallays the best known being Roslin Glen which has a great network of footpaths, where few years ago while walking my dog I caught a glimpse of a Kingfisher.

I lived in a place called Highley when I was a child and went to a school in Bridgenorth. We use to go down to the River Seven quite a lot as I remember. I remember it being a lovely area and it seemed a little warmer than it is up here. |

Regards Les. | A friend of mine was really into the whole Di Vinci code and she visited the chapel and thoroughly enjoyed herself. Really interested in all those impressive folk, plus Dolly who hailed from your area, but bovril! I think that's one of those things you either love or hate If you like Kingfishers, then there's a really good posting on this site, it's in the form of a diary - just bril!

Hi Les, been to Roslin Chapel a few times but it's a bit commercialised now. I have had a walk through Roslin Glen, which is a really nice walk full of wildlfie

I go riding up on Wenlock Edge
