Anyone do snails?

Does anybody happen to be good at identifying snails?





I'm pretty sure the first two are the same species and some sort of Clausilia. The two choices seem to be C.bidentata and C.dubia - I think it is the latter the Craven Door Snail. It was 14.5mm in height and according to my FSC Land Snails Key that makes it C.dubia and it was in the right part of the Yorkshire Dales. Could anyone confirm that for me?




I didn't do very well with this one it came out as Trichia hispida - but I wasn't very sure as I went through the key. It was about 9mm in diameter and 5mm in height and had a prominent umbilicus on the underside. Once again if anyone could help that would be great.

Re-doing the second one this morning I came up with Trichia striolata instead but only by ignoring the size. According to the key they are usually >12mm in diameter this was only 9mm but it does seem to match better in other respects.

The first is a Clausillia (probably bidentata as thats the most common) but I'd need to look it up in my book to be sure. The Trichia's are tricky without seeing them in person, you can't always go by size as snails just come out as tiny miniatures of the adults. If there are 3 or less whorls it is a juvenile, but the picture has more so it probably is hispida. Again I'd need my book to be sure. Hope this helps
