Rabbit hole in my garden???

Hi,

I have recently moved into my new home which backs onto a riverside park which is packed with wildlife. I was working in my garden yesterday and I have found a hole or tunnel in my garden which is about 5" diameter, once I had a further look around the garden I noticed 3 or 4 more attempted holes.
I antically thought it was a Rabbit hole but after talking with my neighbour he thought it may be a Fox or Badger, which I find hard to believe.
I was just wanting some info on this or any advice on what to do?

Thanks.

Firstly a warm welcome to WAB
Try keep a watch on the hole at dusk you might see the culprit . Or you could try either soaking the ground in front or putting wet sand there then you might get a footprint. Take photos of footprint and post on WAB I'm sure it wouldn't take long for someone to ID your culprit and then you can decide what to do.

Beside a river? could be an Otter - if they are in you area! If it is you will have endless hours of enjoyment . But beware of them - they can be vicious animals. So keep any pets away because they do not like to be cornered.
But listen the good advice you were given and keep watch.

Re: Rabbit hole in my garden???

Sounds more likely to be a Rabbit hole as it's not big enough for Fox or Badger & an Otter wouldn't have a holt in a garden.

Hi waterside82 and welcome.

We had foxes and Rabbits in our garden where we used to live. There were tunnels under the neighbours shed. If yours is a Rabbit hole you could get foxes as well. Do as the others have said and keep watching.
We put a slug pub out and the Fox was drinking the beer and eating the drown slugs.

Foxes & Rabbits do sometimes use the same tunnels etc but a 5 inch diameter hole is a bit too small for your average Fox.

I never said it was a Fox hole. I said their could be a Fox in the garden attracted by the prey that's all.

We had Rabbits and foxes but no holes.

Re: Rabbit hole in my garden???

My apologies. Your post read to me as if you meant a Fox could be using the hole.
