| | | Egg sac or fungus???? Came across this on a tree in Hawks Wood, Thorpe Salvin.
We thought at first it was a fungi but on closer inspection it looks like it could be an egg sac
(or possibly neither of the above  )
Can anybody shed some light on this please |

I think it's Reticularia lycoperdon - a Slime Mould.

| | | Re: Egg sac or fungus???? Yes Duke, it's a Slime Mould - I had one on my apple tree not so long ago and I posted the photo here, worried it was a sac of giant spider eggs too! haha

neil | Thanks Neil for the suggestion.
I have had a quick look in the gallery and while I agree it is a Slime Mould from the photos there I think it looks more like Enteridium lycoperdon. |

yes they are the same.It was a case of two books - two names so I tossed a coin and it came down heads instead of tails
