Re: what's your favourite animal noise

Oh that made me laugh so much I have joined you in the ''wet pants'' department ....anyway for me it has to the wonderful little house sparrowever since i was a small child they nested up under the guttering ...and on sat mornings ...it was no school ...staying in bed reading my ''Bunty'' comic and listening and watching .them up on the eves chatting away .....and I found it so so comforting.....even today when i hear them (sadly not anywhere nr my house) i get that wonderful memory of my childhood ....oh if only i could turn the clock back and there is one other special one too .....4 years ago i was driving home in the early hours with my friend I saw an adult Tawny owl that had been hit by a car ...so i wrapped him him in my sweatshirt and brought it home ....the next day a wildlife volunteer came and picked it up and they nursed him for about 6 weeks ...then they brought him back and we released him where i had found him ....i used to ring up every week to get an update and each animal was given a name and he was called ''Tree'' and ever since that day, every time i go to bed i lay there quietly and most nights a Tawny owl sits the oak tree outside my bedroom window there making the usual owl noises ......getting ready to spend the night hunting ...... and i say'' nite nite tree ''and it makes me have a warm fuzzy feeling inside ....and i like to think he comes to let me know he is doing ok Marion

Re: what's your favourite animal noise

Add the screaming pursuit of Swifts, the first Pipistrelle raspberry of a tracking and feeding buzz, snuffling Hedgehogs, screaming Vixens,
the soft slurp of a feeding Carp, the crackling zip of Dragonfly wings
the gentle churr of a nesting Jackdaw, the sibilant hiss of wind swept grasses
Ain't life grand

The soft wuffle of a passing Mole...

I tried not to send this, but I couldn't help it.

I am really enjoying the posts that are going on, they are very evocative.

Quite like that crazy yaffle of the Green Woodpecker.

Re: what's your favourite animal noise

For me the liquid gold sound of a blackbird singing on a summer evening.. and before and after rain.. robins.. the wren shouting from the ridge of the garage. And Munjac deer barking in the field beside my house.. wonderful.

I love the growl my chihuahua makes when the bigger dog goes near his chews..

Night before last I couldnt sleep and gave up .. got up to the dawn chorus.. it was amazing.. I almost didnt resent being awake all night.

Re: what's your favourite animal noise

I love the sounds of animals when they've got young, a horse 'talking ' to its foal, a sheep to a lamb, a cow to a calf etc, also almost any bird song if I'm allowed to call birds animals

Re: what's your favourite animal noise

I love so many - the sound of the rutting stag, the thrush singing on high, the heralding of spring by the Cuckoo, Roe deer barking - beautiful.
I must not forget the sound of my Wife nipping my ear to cut the grass!!!

Re: what's your favourite animal noise

My local blackbird singing for all his worth any Spring evening . Oystercatchers .
The White-backed Magpie I encountered everywhere in New Zealand .
A Woodpecker banging away at a tree .
The Fallow Stag in rut .
Snails rasping away on the vegetation on a very still night in Somerset while I was Badger watching .
Hedgehogs sparring .
Roe deer barking .
Swallows , Swifts and Martins screaming through the sky of a Summer evening .
And finally the crack of gorse buds on a hot Summers day .

Mine would have to be the sound of a calling Ptarmigan, its an amazing thing to experience the first time you hear it! Also I think Tufted duck make a beautiful call. The last one would be the distinctive songs of the Yellowhammers, in my back garden

Re: what's your favourite animal noise

I don't think I have a particular favourite but I sat alongside the creek on a sunny afternoon this week.
The sounds I heard were amazing.
Reed Warblers, Sedge Warblers, the pinging of the Bearded Tit, Sky larks, Lapwings, Oyster Catchers, Redshanks, Little Grebes, Moorhens, Coots, the soft quacking of the mallard duck calling her brood.
Sometimes theres no better place to be.

Oh!! Then the frogs started, The noise they made drowned everything else,
*#@%# things.

Re: what's your favourite animal noise

Mine has to be the sound of the dawn chorus....closely followed by the contented purr of a cat.
