Wierd Noise!

Woke me up at 2:00am this morning

Sounded like a cross between a dog and a man with a wheezy cough with perhaps a bit of seagull or buzzard rolled in. Went on for about half an hour and sounded quite eerie.

Unfortunately I couldn't see it but I am guessing (beacuse of the volume) it was a fairly large mammal - may perhaps have been a bird, but I doubt it.

Odd thing is that I live in quite an urban area so it could have been a Fox, but I have heard it before a couple of times which suggests it lives nearby (or that it makes this noise every time it visits my house!).

BTW - it definatley wasn't a bunch of blokes on the way home from the pub.

Any ideas?

Hedgehogs?

I understand they can be quite noisy when mating.

Re: Wierd Noise!

It sounds more like a small mammal to me,possibly a Hedgehog these
small animals can make a dickens of a row for their size

Re: Wierd Noise!

Couple of ideas: A barn owl, they make some very strange noises

And some deer make weird noises. But that depends on how built up an area you are in

Re: Wierd Noise!

It would have to be a HUUUUUGE Hedgehog to make enough noise to wake me up at 2 in the morning, still, I have seen them in the garden before so there is a chance it was them

yep i'd say that too, ones around my way edmonton north london no less woke up the whole street more than once
the first time it sounded like a car alarm with a flat battery, but a thousand times louder

i thought either a dog was attacking a cat but far too loud,
i went out side to see what it was, 2 am on the dot, and it was a Fox just calling out
since then i obviously reconise their calls so just look out and sat awww cute

another time i thought i heard someone breaking into or beating up a car
when i looked outside i saw a Fox attacking a plastic hubcap it had torn off a car wheel, it was repeatedly pouncing on it with its front paws
i can only guess it had been peed on by a cat or dog, the hub cap that is, i doubt a cat or dog would have the gonads to pee on a Fox...........
