Northumberland

I am visiting Northumberland for the first time in March/April. I realise it's a bit early in the season to expect much bird life but has anyone any suggestions of places to go wildlife to see. I would love to see Red Squirrels if possible.

There are Red Squirrels in Kielder Forest but I don't know how easy they are to see. Also a good site for Goshawk- always worth looking for displaying birds from now into March on fine days.

Lindisfarne is always a great spot- famous for the largest number of Pale-bellied Brent Geese in England, plenty of Wigeon, etc if you are there in March into April.

Newcatle itself has the most inland nesting Kittiwakes in the world on the Tyne Bridge.

Otherwise contact the Northumberland Wildlife Trust or local bird group. The coastline is fabulous up there.

if you are going to kielder the leaplish centre has a walk through the woods to a hide ive been twice and seen reds on both ocassions (its well signposted and its next to the bird of prey centre). hope this helps and have a great time up here
