A gas gun however is not normally used in and around sheds - not a good way of keeping cattle happy and feeding so sounds very strange

Thanks mac, I would agree that it is very strange, especially as surely starlings have been appearing for years and years. He is the third generation on this farm, grandad was fine, dad less fine, son - well - maybe he is still at the age when he likes machines over using his brains! He is now modifying the number of times the gun goes off, however, the council seems to think he could use alternative methods of excluding birds. But I think it would have been so much better if someone from the council had gone out and visited him, or got a farming representative to advise him. Unfortunately the noise log thing is I think a waste of time, and the whole procedure will not achieve anything in this case as by the time it's completed the noise will have stopped (hopefully). The weather is much better, and the starlings will go off I would have thought, and then he will switch it off. A little bit more neighbourlyness would have been a good thing. It's not that there is no noise here normally, farm machinery makes noise and low flying aircraft MOD on nice days, and his use temporarily on a crop would have been tolerated with no problems. He must have spent alot of money on gas
