Question Time to Stare

Hi
I have seen a lot of very reviews in various wildlife magazines of a book called "Time to Stare: Wildlife in a corner of Britain" by Ray Armstrong and I was wondering if anyone has this book or has seen a copy of it?
There is not a copy in my local bookshop to view but by all accounts it is a "must have book" for all wildlife enthusiasts with some excellent photos in it. I will probably end up purchasing a copy through curiosity but if you have seen or read it I would be interested to know what it is like?

Hi Beryl

Thanks very much for the link. I have a feeling that the book features the Wye Valley.

I will have to buy a copy and report back!

Hello norfolkcoast from the North Norfolk coast!

I know your area very well being a frequent visitor up there from Essex.

Welcome to WAB!

I had not heard of the book you mention but it does sound like one to consider getting hold of.

Richard

Hi again

I managed to find a copy of Time to Stare in a neighbouring Town and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by it. The photography is simply stunning and apparently it has taken the Author 25 years to compile this collection, I don't think I could have been as patient as that! I think what struck me about the pictures is that all the photos were taken within a couple of miles of his house which really demonstrates the variety of wildlife that can be seen in a small area.

Although the photography makes the book look attractive (it looks nice on my coffee table!), its actually quite a good read as well. I have read a few pages so far and some of his anecdotes really do take you through all the emotions, especially the one of Ollie the Song Thrush. I won't spoil it for you in case you wish to read the book but it is a bit of a tear-jerker!

Thanks for the welcome and also the link to the review.

You are right with the name, I should shorten it as I shouldn't be biased towards the coast when there are so many nice inland areas i.e Holt, Norfolk Broads, Norwich etc
