| | | What is this "jelly"? Sorry, not too sure where to post this so here goes!
Following the gales and torrential rain yesterday, I wandered up our field this morning to untangle the electric fence, when I came across a large ball of opaque jelly like stuff on the grass. First I thought it looked like the water retention gel I use in my hanging baskets, but there is no way any of that could get there. Its just like a large lump of frogspawn but with no black eggs in the middle. It was in particularly boggy patch of the field which forms a puddle when it rains hard. Could it be infertile frog spawn? Any ideas appreciated.
Thanks. |

| | | Re: What is this "jelly"? It's the most likely thing - you're the warmest part of the country there too; warmish and wet - couple of weeks early for here but where you are a little early perhaps but.... |

| | | Re: What is this "jelly"? Yes, probably the remains of a predated lady frog, where the jelly has been left uneaten and swollen in the rain. Known as "star-slime" in some areas, I believe.

| | | Re: What is this "jelly"? Well you learn something new every day came across this stuff the other day ,looked like wallpaper paste to me for want of a better description, was sure it was man made, some sort of farm product. You most likely right about the frogs as i have seen buzzards hunting worms, frogs etc in the same area. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
