Hardy hedghog

Hi Folks
The dog was barking the other night in the garden and it turned out to be a Hedgehog. The problem is at the time it was way below freezing I thought the little spiky creatures were supposed to be fast asleep. Is this usual or are the Hedgehogs is Yorkshire a hardy bunch?

Not sure but I believe that although they hibernate between November and March, Hedgehogs regularly wake up during the period and often rebuild their nests or sometimes move location and build a new one.
