| | | Photos of Deer and other wildlife in Richmond Park I visited Richmond for the first time today, I live near london but on the completely opposite side, it took 2 1/2hrs to get home. But boy was it worth it.
On entering the park I was suprised there was road going through it and wondered about my chnces of seeing anything. but as I wandered I walked right past this Red Deer stag hiding behing some brown braken and wandered round to get this shot:
Then as i wnadered away from the noise of the traffic all I could hear was a squarking call which turned out to be ring necked pararkeets. I saw and heard 100s today:
I then saw what I came for
no rutting all day but I did get some nice shots
I then wandered further into the park and found the herd of Fallow Deer
the next team to thrash wales on the rugby field? lol
got some nice shots there too
But most interesting was this. At first I wondered if it was a goat or shaun sheep wandering with the herd.
I was worried about putting a photo online to start, after the recent events with the white stag, but theres photos of white deer in richmond park on flickr and imagine elsewhere. Hopefully they will be safe in a royal park. |

| | | Re: Photos of Deer and other wildlife in Richmond Park I then came across another Red Deer herd which I carefully moved past getting this shot
thou i mite aswell have not been so carefully as a few folks on horse came charging through scaring them off a few minutes later. Then proceeded to scre the wildfowl off the lake
You can also see one of the many dogs off a lead. Why the dogs owners not giving a dam about the wildlife is particuarly uncommon (not all dog owners are this bad thou! ) I thought these would have been concerned about a Red Deer trampling or injuring their dog, especially with the numerous warning signs around.
Anyway I digress. as they scared the wilfowl off a pair of kingfishers wizzed past to the next lake aswell. Mind you these guys came striaght back and began preening again
Also spotted these two ducks
I know there not native. Anyone got an ID?
And in the enclosed garden was a few of these beautiful mandarins - always a fav to photograph
And to finsh of the day I saw a bird in a tree ahead as I was leaving. It reseembled a ringed dove in the low light. So I cranked up the brightness and took a photo to see this:
Oh cool a kestrel i thought and put my camera up for another shot only to see it wizz off lol. But was still a good day
Ps hope its ok I spread this over two posts - I needed too with pictures being important to the story and all that |

| | | Re: Photos of Deer and other wildlife in Richmond Park very nice photos, looks like you had a good day out. Your ducks are I think Egyptian Geese but I would wait for further ID.

| | | Re: Photos of Deer and other wildlife in Richmond Park Yep, definitely Gippo's! They nest in trees and we saw them earlier in the year pospecting one. The flats in the background are th Alton Estate, Roehampton. I live just the other side of them.
The bracken in the deers' antlers is caugh ther because the stags get wound up so much they thrash about in the bracken ... it doesn't take too long for them to clear quite an area!
I'm glad that you had such a good day, shame about the pesky parakeets! I get them in a tree outside my bedroom window, screeching, at about half past three in the summer!
Another good park to visit, very similar to Richmond Park, is Bushy Park. You might like to try that as well.
All the very best,
WW
