| | | Strange Jackdaw behaviour While out on my walk today with Jazz we were joined by this fellow..It started off he was just standing by the side of the track so I quickly took a few pic's and then moved on and to my surprise he started walking towards us being about 3feet away ..I carried on walking and so did he ..staying behind me about 3-4 feet this carried on for about 20feet ..it was then that i noticed another walker with a dog loose that i walked towards him trying to make him fly off..but he didnt just went into the adge of the track and waited for them to pass..I took another route and headed home ..
Any ideas why this happened..

| | | Re: Strange Jackdaw behaviour Looking at the pic the bird doesn't look too well, although it is a possibility it was hand reared and then released and so has no fear of humans, but then you think it would react to the dog unless the person that reared it had a dog too? hmmm more likely it was ill |

| | | Re: Strange Jackdaw behaviour Perhaps it was a bit concussed or something. I've found doves like that when they've knocked themselves for six on a window. The only other thing is that perhaps it's been hand reared and therefore not frightened of humans, which would be a shame as that makes it a liability in the wild. Or...perhaps it just liked you!

| | Re: Strange Jackdaw behaviour Many years ago in Richmond Park where there is a large colony of Jackdaws a singl bird attached itself to me + was oblivious to all the other birds. Then this woman started calling "Jack" which was his name + he had been hand-reared + thought he was an honoury human, ignoring his own species. This bird seem to take a shine to me + the owner had to struggle through a wet ditch to retrieve him. First bird I've pulled in Richmond Park! |

| | | Re: Strange Jackdaw behaviour I think it may not be a well Jackdaw, its posture does not seem alert which it should be considering the close proximity of people.
