lack Of Acorns

I am not sure if this is just a local problem, but we have a real lack of Acorns near us, are others experiencing the same or are other area's of the UK OK?

Re: lack Of Acorns

Must be a local thing, maybe because of the floods earlier in the year.

But we have searched all the local oak trees, and not an acorn in sight.

I picked a couple acorns up last time I was out for a walk, thinking about planting them...

Re: lack Of Acorns

I too have noticed a lack of them here in central Scotland. I've came across the odd tree with a few on them.
Possibly taken by squirrels, magpies, crows etc.

Question Re: lack Of Acorns

My wife and I were out today and I pointed out that there were no acorns about , neither could I find any beech nuts about.

Re: lack Of Acorns

I was really surprised to hear about the shortage of acorns in some places because we have masses - more than I've seen for years. Can't think why there should be such a discrepancy from region to region.

Re: lack Of Acorns

We seem to be lacking here as well, no sign of any conkers either, last year we had plenty of both.

Re: lack Of Acorns

There is a shortage around the Forest of Dean, too. The acorn harvest hasn't been too good this year. At least our horses won't be eating too many! But it does seem odd that there are so many in some areas but hardly and in others.

The chestnuts round here are also absolute rubbish there are plenty but they are very small and all shell and no nut.

Re: lack Of Acorns

I have noticed that all the husks of the chestnuts on the ground have been completely empty & I did comment to my other half about not seeing any acorns yet. I wonder if the squirrels are collecting all the chestnuts because of the lack of acorns this year?
I also tried to find hazel & beech nuts locally but to no avail although I did see some beech nuts whilst on holiday in Lancs last week.

Re: lack Of Acorns

I think You will find all the acorns You need, next year, then the year after, there wont be so many.I've nioticed that, after many years of leaf raking. In particular,I go to a big garden,3.5 acres, with 41 mature oaks.Last year, there were millions, this year, there are hardly any, makes easier leaf collection, bobbo
