We have just returned from a coach and walking tour of a small part of the Dolomites. Generally speaking, the wildlife was pretty disappointing, but I have managed to put together some pictures for your delectation. Some are better than others!
We were taken high up in the mountains to the Pardoi Pass where we were to take a cable car to the top for the splendid views. On the way up the 27 hairpin bends to the pass, it started to snow, and eventually we had about three inches. To keep warm, we went into the shop and were rewarded by a mass sighting of cuckoos
The next day, we walked around the lovely Lake Molveno where the weather was much more to our liking.
Looks like a Common Blue
I have put this down as a bush cricket?
Is this a
Small Heath?
A Praying Mantis
A poor picture of a Crested Tit - they seemed to be in one spot only and were very elusive - I think there were also Goldcrests but they were even more elusive
The next pics come from Merano where there was a beautiful walk on both sides of the river.
Hoverfly?
The uncommon Common Darter
The Greater Dolomite Woodpecker
Trout
A long distance wagtail - I was so desperate for some wildlife!
Then a walk to Andolo
This is the nearest we got to the fabled Brown Bear
An Autumn Crocus
We only know this plant as the Shepherds' Barometer which is how it was described to us many years ago on a walking holdiday in the Cevennes
Finally, a self-portrait wrongly exposed (in every sense) from a convex mirror that
might just account for the distortions!
