Anyone know of any good nature sites in Lancashire/Gtr Manchester/Merseyside
Macro eg x5, x1, 1:2 etc

Originally Posted by paulst Formby is excellent, if you take some children they will love the red squirrels paul | It certainly is a good site. Other sites starting nearby are Frodsham, near Runcorn, Crosby Marina and by the side is Seaforth NR (unfortunately you can only look through the fence now as there is no access allowed anymore). Going past Formby you have the RSPB reserve Marshside, just north of Southport. From there a short drive northwards is Banks and this can be a rewarding walk to, and along the estuary.
Going further around the coast Lytham can produce and just on the edge of Blackpool you have Marton Mere (not Martin Mere which is inland and east of Southport).
Going further north you have Heysham Power Station with its concrete hide overlooking the outfall (or it used to be as I haven't been for a few years now). Heysham itself can produce and moving even further north you have Morecambe which is always worth a look. There is another RSPB site just past here near Heste Bank & Bolton Le Sands.
Inland from here you have Bowlands Moor with it's typical Moorland birds including the odd Hen harrier, Red Grouse etc.
Further north you come to the excellent Leighton Moss reserve and that is about it for now.
