I would say that any process which results in an image being produced for our consideration, enjoyment or judgement should be considered an artistic process. So yes, I would say that wildlife photography is an art form.
It depends on the species and the environment. What would work composition wise for, let's say, a Lion may not work for an Elephant. The whole aspect of wildlife photography is the artists (photographers) desire to show the rendering of a situation, whether that be the struggle for life, death, procreation, birth or any other aspect of behaviour, as percieved from their standpoint.
How often do you see so many shots of the same species but presented in ways that continue to impress? It's all down to the artistic talent and vision of the photographer in question.
FWIW, Photography, the word, when broken down actually translates as "Painting with Light" so there's your artistic foundation.
Cheers,
Mark. |

| | | Re: artistic photography. My wife does this too. Some time ago there was a documentary about a woman who was confined to bed and all she did was cross stitch. She knocked them out in under three weeks. My wife isn't as quick as that. |
