| | | Baby fox possibly abandoned Hello
I'm trying to find out the best course of action. My son's girlfriend is convinced that she has been hearing a baby fox crying for the last couple of nights or so and it's been constant. We are concerned in case it has been abandoned or it's mother killed in some way. Has anybody got any suggestions of what to do? |

| | | Re: Baby fox possibly abandoned Hi and welcome to WAB.
What about doing a search online for some samples of fox sounds so you can confirm that's what your son's girlfriend is hearing. Then you will have to find out where the sound is coming from and assess whether the animal is in distress or not.
Is there a wildlife hospital nearby that you could contact for further advice?

Thanx for your reply, Alice has listened online and it's definitely a cry. I've managed to find a 24 hour helpline number through the RSPCA that she will ring and ask them for advice. I don't know of a local wildlife centre but I will keep looking.
Thanx again,

| | | Re: Baby fox possibly abandoned Are you sure that its in distress? they do use alot of calls even adults can sound in pain etc when they are totally fine, is there only one fox cub? have you seen it? Adults arnt to deep and can make sounds like a baby crying, as can cats. Welcome to WAB. |

Alice has now called the RSPCA and they have taken all the details and said they will be putting it on an emergency call out. I hope everything is fine and in one way, that we have been mistaken so fingers crossed.
Thanx for the comments!

| | | Re: Baby fox possibly abandoned Penny,
A young fox should be semi-independent by now (assuming it was born in March) and will certainly be finding grubs, worms, small frogs and such to eat so even if it's not located it probably won't be going hungry. By Autumn (and it feels like we're already there) they are fairly capable hunters in their own right. |

I just wanted to let those of you know who contacted me about this fox that Alice hasn't heard anything for the past few nights so we are hoping that the RSPCA got to it or that it's been well enough to find it's own way.
Thanx for all your comments!
