| | | Day out on the River Wharfe Hi peeps!
Well it didn't actually rain today (for a change!) so 10yr old son and I trundled off to Barden and walked along the river Wharfe towards Bolton Abbey It was about a 4 mile round trip and thoroughly enjoyable
We certainly got to see lot's today and we started off at Barden bridge which is edged by farmers fields initally. I've seen Kingfishers along this part before but sadly none today Pic heavy thread here btw lol!
So first up here's a few pics of the river itself...
Just before entering the woodland I spied this Wall Brown which is a new butterfly for me - yeah!
The woodlands were strangely quiet of bird song, just the odd tit or chaffy calling but not much else. I did find these rather stunning fungi growing on a tree stump - any idea what they are?
The woodland opened out along a large meadow and a big patch of thistles - it was teeming with butterflies...
Comma
Red Admiral
Underwing moth of some sort? It was a biggy!
Green Veined White
Painted Lady
and son found these little devils in a rock pool. Red signals no doubt
Did spy a Dipper in the river but it was too far away for me to get a decent shot
So anyone jealous then?!? lol! |

Well I've no idea what it was and there were so many fungi growing on the trees but this one caught my eye being so beautifully patterned |

Thanks for the photo tour. I have done that area myself on a couple of occasions and it is certainly a beautiful area and your photos have certainly done it justice.
BTW the moth looks like a Large Yellow Underwing.

John | Well I certainly am a lucky lady actually living just 3 miles from the Wharfe, it means I can just pop along whenever the mood takes me lol! It takes a while to track down the jewels of an area when you've just moved to it
Thanks for the moth ID John |
