have a look at this link. Basically this is a new scheme in Cumbria to log biodivisity/changes in population and habitat. There are lots of volunteers that help with monitoring year after year, meaning the we have a really good idea of population and distribution changes. Species and habitat can be mapped out really well. Basically all this means is that if you have a look at teh biodiversity action plan, and down load it you can find out where all the species are living,how many there are and what state they're in!! Brilliant if you want to know what's living in your area. Fab site.
