| | | Re: Farm shop I'm often left disgusted by the lack of quality...or even general edibility....of much of the so called 'fresh produce' in our local supermarket.
I've seen sights that have made me cringe so much that I've walked straight back out again!
I only ever buy meat from our local award winning butcher and prefer to use the greengrocers shop for fruit/veg/salad etc.
We have a farmers market once a month which is very worthwhile and also a farm shop in the town. Chatsworth Farm Shop isn't too far away either.
The food is more expensive yes....but I'd rather buy/eat that any day than the rubbish the Co Op sells!

We have another couple of good butchers just a few miles away but it's still a shame. |

| | | Re: Farm shop Problem is, people in the main want cheap food. That is why we are losing all our small yet quality shops.
I will support mine till the end but they are finding it tough.

| | | Re: Farm shop I know, a few times I would go into the butchers with just a tenner on me and ask for 2 fillet steaks for that and more than likely once he had cut them and weighed them they would come out as more than that but a tenner it was, you look after me and I'll look after you sort of thing, won't get that in a supermarket. |

You also don't get the free bones to make stock or the hand-minced good quality lamb for your shepherd's pie. Or the home-cured ham and home-made scotch eggs. I love my butcher
A restaurant near us has just opened a shop where they sell the local produce they use as ingredients and some of the things, like bread, that they make on the premises to use in the restaurant. Great idea - the quality is excellent, and I'm sure it brings trade to the restaurant as well. Not cheap, but I'll reduce my spending on almost anything before I start economising on food quality. |

| | | Re: Farm shop While most farm shops only sell their own and other locally produced meat and veg, there are some i have been to that had new potatoes from EGYPT, runner beans From KENYA etc, so its worth checking out when you use this type of outlet that you are getting what you think you went to the farm shop for in the first place, good local produce!
there are farm shops and there are farm shops

| | | Re: Farm shop I live in Guildford Surrey and we have no small shops left, 15 years ago our main street had 2 butchers, 2 fish shops,2 green grocers and a pet shop, they've all gone now since tescos took over. We have a farmers market once a month but the produce is so expensive ordinary working people can't afford it, for example a loaf of bread costs over £2 |

| | | Re: Farm shop I use farm shops and local shops whenever I can. There are a few farmer’s markets around my area so I consider myself lucky. I never buy meat from supermarkets only ever my trusted local butcher. I mostly make my own bread (thanks to Panasonic!) Lol, much better bread and a lot cheaper too! This year I grew my own carrots, just in a large deep garden tub, sowing a section per week then harvested weekly whilst small, they were delicious. I plan to get a patch dug over to create a small vegetable plot for next year. It's the way forward in my opinion. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
