| | | A new forum I don't know if this is the right place to put forward my request for a new forum but after I put my pictures of a Medieval Church into The Great Outdoors section I thought it might have been better if we had a section for Ancient buildings and Monuments. This country of ours has a wealth of ancient constructions and many of us visit them in our interest of wildlife that can be found nesting and growing in and on the crumbling walls.
In regards to my pictures of the Church I notice there's no description beneath, therefore no one understands what caused the grooves on the wall in the porch. These were made by English bowmen, sharpening their arrows prior to invading the Welsh in the 12th centuary. I wonder if it was my error that caused the description to be errased. |

| | | Re: A new forum Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be adding a building/monuments forum to the site any time soon. Wild About Britain is essentially a wildlife, environment and outdoors site that encompasses a wide variety of topics, but I don't think we could really stretch it to buildings and architecture.
We also have quite a few requests to open a pets section in the forum and Gallery, but again, whilst it would probably give us lots of new topics and some great pictures, it goes a bit beyond the main scope of the site.
I've just recently added this info to the Gallery FAQs to hopefully make the aim of the 'Great Outdoors' category a little clearer. 'Essentially, the Great Outdoors Gallery contains outdoor rural photos, which aren't natural landscapes, that give a flavour of the British countryside. We have many foreign visitors to the site who are often fascinated by pictures of rural Britain. Whilst some of the pics are ordinary to us, for them it is something unusual and so it's similar to us seeing pictures of chinese temples, venezuelan farmhouses etc' As a result, we're trying to avoid adding indoor images, urban landscapes etc, but the lines will sometimes blur a bit - so the image of the sharpening stones make it in, but unfortunately the interiors of churches, pubs etc can't be added.
However, all said and done, we might add an archaeology forum, not for buildings exactly, but more for info about Britain's heritage, folklore, country skills, crafts and the way we used to live etc.

| | | Re: A new forum Thank you for the reply. I fully understand your reasons for not including the interior of the buildings, it could certainly snowball into some kind of confusion especialy if the inside of old public houses are included. This is a fantastic forum and a great place to learn about the British countryside. I hope I may be able to help in the identification area now and again with what little knowlage I have. Thank you.
