At Slimbridge I tried the Pentax Papilio 8.5x binoculars,compact and
VERY close focusing I watched a large fly about TWO feet away in
perfect detail (they are made for butterfly/Dragonfly watching)
Distance performance was excellent also and you don't get those
seperate circles that you have to merge as the eyepieces are geared together

I'm welded to my Swarovski EL 8x32s, can't bare to be parted from them no matter what else I'm carrying. |

I bought them 2nd hand from Birdnet Optics. If they last me as long as the warranty is valid for, they won't have been that expensive  . As they say, you get what you pays for, and the ELs just outperform everything else. When I had a cheaper pair of binos I used to have to use my scope to see what my wife was seeing through her ELs, when I got my ELs, I understood why she could spot things that I couldn't. |
