Ah! But it's made to last! See what you mean there eeyore. My concern when I looked at it... I was thinking of using it to move shopping from car to house.. is that there doesnt seem to be much of a 'bed' to it. I also wondered about the angle when pushing.. wont everything slide forward/off?

| | | Re: flatbed wheelbarrow on a big wheel type thing Sorry for the late entry into this post! I designed and make the nomie barrow.
I'll try and help where I can:
First cost,
Quote: a little expensive for four bits of wood and a bike wheel
Yes, I agree. I would love to be able to manufacture this barrow more cheaply. But a barrow / trolley has to be tough, particularly an off road barrow. Also to fit my needs the barrow had to come apart so I could take it on location. The only way to meet these requirements was to have it hand built from quality tube steel. This is then coated in a plastic (PPA) from the automobile industry to protect it against the weather and knocks.
The brackets to seat the wheel and the barrow handles are laser cut and the handles are made from high quality laminated water boil point ply, this is then coated in several coats of marine yatch varnish. When I add the aluminium cross poles, threaded bar, nuts, bolts, washers, wing nuts etc. to the above it all adds to the manufacture cost. So although I do agree that on the face of it it looks like an expensive item, and I would really like to be able to make the same quality product more cheaply, the reality is the barrow is pretty good value for money, it just cost a lot to make good things by hand in the UK. Again it all comes back to the disposable culture that I am trying to get away from, we just can't sustain it.

I have designed holes in the bed of the barrows to secure my kit, tripods, bags lighting etc. for 'loose' loads I would fix/tie a plastic box onto the trolley and put the shopping etc in the box. When I take the kids to the beach for the day, I wrap everything in a blanket and strap it onto the trolley, this works very well, with load of stuff.
Quote: I'd still want a sherpa to push it for me though
The barrow itself is incredibly easy to push, even over rough ground. But yes if you put a LOT of kit on it and push it up a steep hill, a sherpa / assistant would be handy.
The trolley is not for everyone, like a Landrover, if you are not using it off road, it is a questionable buy. I think the carp trolleys are ok for flattish ground with paths, but the smaller wheels and low to the ground base are where they let me down for my needs.
I hope the above is useful, please mail me from the site if you have questions that I may be able to help with?
Glyn

| | | Re: flatbed wheelbarrow on a big wheel type thing Hello Glyn I have just had a look at the barrow it is as you say a high
quality product from the look of it
I do admit that I often think "I could make that cheaper" but having to source
and buy good materials in small quantities, find the time (expensive this) assemble, and get a professional finish on it...........
