| | | which scope l am looking for a new scope around the £500 pound mark, currently considering either celestron or hawke ED models.does any one use either of these, or have any other ideas. Also are 100mm scopes worth the extra money.
l won't be carrying them too far aveley pools at rainham rspb is about the farthest which is about 2k on level pathways so not too worried about the weight,as for viewing distance about 200 to 400m.
Just wondering if i'd be better off spending the extra cash on a better 80mm. hoping to use it for digiscoping for i.d photos as well.
Thanks

| | | Re: which scope The only way to get a scope IMO is to go and try a few. Spending that amount you need to be sure it is right for you.
Various reserves do equipment days from time to time and they can be useful.
The only place I know from experience is the In Focus shop at London Colney. We spent ages there trying out loads of scopes and binoculars with no pressure to buy.
Bigger scopes obviously weigh more but I have found carrying an 80mm scope on a tripod no problem.
However, it is really down to spending the time to try as many as possible to get the feel for what you want.

| | | Re: which scope Scopes like binocs come down to the individuals eyes - you can decide beforehand what make and how much money you are going to spend but then get to the shop and find that your eyes 'dont' like your choice for some reason! Everyone sees things differently thro optical equipment even thro the high end cost stuff. At the lower end what one person can tolerate thro the viewfinder as regards image clarity and fringing does depend on the individuals eyesight and is not neccessarily the equipments 'fault'. You do need to look thro and comapre a few and you may be surprised and come away having bought something you hadn't considered while reading or thinking at home or online! Good luck!
