John:
Can you play a wmv from any other website? ... probably!
Can you play one from your local pc? .... more than likely!
wmv is a File format based in ASF (Advanced Systems Format) that wraps a video bit stream ... This itself is quite technical! To make matters worse there are several subsets of wmv. So much depends on how the original file was produced i.e. by which program / codec. Furthermore, a file may use several codecs during compression i.e. one for audio and another for video!
I'm assuming you have XP SP2, media player 10 (not 11) and ie > v6
Without sitting at your pc! it may be worthwhile looking here: Using codecs
I do suspect that the problems lie within the website and how they have embedded the wmv file.
As for the best video format …. Well, none are 100% but for maximum compatibility in a single format I would recommend flash.
A good guide can be found at: Choosing the best video format for your web site

I have noticed lewisa hasn't been on for a while. Thankfully I have his phone number (unless he has changed it). It might pay me to ask his advice if Stu or FJ can't help.

| | | Re: I need your help please. Hi John
This is where my lack of technical ability lets me down. I haven't a clue about any of this. It looks like I will have to do more or less what I did to get my web site up and running and that is to get someone knowledgeable to drop by my house and help set up the correct way of setting these video's up. Either that or completely forget about putting videos on my web site. That's a shame as I have a few very rare birds that I would like to add to that Gallery.

I hope he hasn't lost it but I agree that could be the way forward.
