there are plenty of good 'Bridge' cameras out there. i got a Panasonic FZ50 as my first ever proper camera, which i was well pleased with. others i considered were the Samsung Pro185 and the Fuji S9600. i opted for the FZ50 as it had that little bit extra zoom and was dead easy to use. i've since bought a Nikon D80 and the FZ50 is a LOT simpler to set and use.
