| | | Generator for Mothing I know leading up to the Thursley meet a few weeks back several people were looking for a reasonable generator for powering Moth traps etc..
If anyone is still interested have a look at this link. ALDI - Sunday Special Buys 10th July 2011
This generator is ideal for Mothing and is small enough to be easily portable.
I shall be getting one on Sunday as my old 800 watt Generator died at the Priory Water meet back in May! |

| | | Re: Generator for Mothing I would be asking if this is safe to use outside in the rain? I looked at it in the shop and thought probably not.

| | | Re: Generator for Mothing It's also a two-stroke running on a 50:1 mixture. OK if you can stand those oily fumes on a still night. |

| | | Re: Generator for Mothing screwfix is good for cheap generators that run on four stroke - they cost more than the aldi ones but they probably last longer as well.
that said I got my 4hp honda generator off ebay for 52 quid - its obviously been used by a builder/siteworker because its got lots of dings to the frame, scrapes, cement splatters etc but it runs sweet as a nut.

| | | Re: Generator for Mothing For upmarket sub kilowatt consumption there's no better generator than a Honda EU10i. Quiet, economical and easy to lugg about. Downside - £810 rrp which makes for expensive mothing.
I'm in the process of purchasing Honda equipment at the mo and am surprised at how much their prices have risen. |

| | | Re: Generator for Mothing So, are we saying a four stroke is quieter than a two stroke?
Cheers,

| | | Re: Generator for Mothing I don't think a generic answer can be given, Andrew C, I think you'd have to look at the manufacturers spec. The Honda generator really is a near silent runner though.
For the Honda EU10i Honda quote a sound level of 52dB, the Aldi genny is rated at 92 dB.
Here's an American video of the same genny branded Harbor Freight. Listen to the loaded volume - just like having a hedge trimmer or chainsaw running next to your lugs! 900watt Power Generator
If you get one and have to build a big ply box to run it in to keep it quiet during mothing sessions, it wont run for very long before it conks out as it breathes its own fumes!
"Not the quietest thing in the world but not too bad" I don't think.
