Hope to meet you again one day. Take Care. | Hi Dennis,
I didn't get one in the finish as I have not really got time to go Mothing at the moment and it seems a waste to spend the money and then leave the new generator unused until next year!
They certainly look ok and would stand a bit of rain without any issues.
Two strokes are a little noisey but not too bad, they do smoke a bit when first started but I have always found that once they are warmed up the amount of smoke they kick out is negligable and I have alawys tended to use a 50 metre extension cable between generator and Moth trap, couple this with a bit of attention to wind direction /air movement and fumes are not an issue.
Honda generators are very nice but they are hellishly over-priced and lets face it if someone up to no good makes off with your two stroke generator its going to cost around £50 - £70 quid to replace, if they do the same with an expensive Honda then £800+ is going to sting more than a bit!! |

| | | Re: Generator for Mothing I used to have one of these which at the time was about 150 notes - they are four stroke but still fairly noisy
incidentally i say used to have because it got stolen - the trouble with the 100m extension cable approach to noise and fume management is that you are 100 metres away - and when it suddenly stops and you go to investigate what you see is a couple of theiving scrotes slinging it in their car
my new one as mentioned above a second hand 4hp honda and despite being twice as powerful its half as noisy
however if quiet is real necessity i've also used a couple of high endurance leisure batteries wired in paralel.

| | | Re: Generator for Mothing My Nephew had one that cost £800. Very quiet it was too.
Can you not attach a hose to the exhaust to let the fumes out further away from the Gen. If one could do that you could put it in a wooden box.
As you say, not worth getting one unless you going to use it a few times each year.
As for the cheeper ones being noisy, I do agree. My nephew had a cheep one before buying the new one and I use to shout at him to switch the darn thing off before I hit it with a sledge hammer. lol
It caused more aggro than the barking dogs.
