| | | Lightweight compact binoculars for hiking. I need a pair of very lightweight binoculars to use when out hiking. These would be for spotting the odd bird, seal, or anything else of interest.
As I would also be carrying my camera equipment and walking about 15 miles they must be light.
I have been looking at the Opticron 8 x 24 BGA TPC (weighing 240g)which I can get for £158 and also a much cheaper one the Steiner Safari Pro 8 x 22 (weighing 257g) for £59.
Both these are roof prisms. I don't want porros as I need them to be compact.
Has anyone any experience of these and which do you think would be the most sensible to buy. Is it worth buying the dearer ones of would the steiners do the job? |

My leica's are too expensive and heavy to be walking in the hills with so went for these as they were good and cheap if I loose or damage the.

| | | Re: Lightweight compact binoculars for hiking. I'm after some cheap binoculars for my fore-coming Coast to Coast walk next month, just some for picking out hidden signs, stiles or general wildlife. However, I do have some nice Nikon compact binoculars, but thinking there are too good for back-packing. |

h | Reason was I found that our local camera shop had a good stock and they were kind enough to let me take several pairs outside and compare them all. They even matched the price on the Internet. By the way I am really really pleased with them. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
