Yes thanks Posch unfortunately OS 1:25,000 far from free it was Open Street Map I was talking about.

This is the web based app that I use to put together tracks

Where's the path ?

The paths can be transferred straight to Garmin devices or saved as gpx files for other sat navs/phones

Thanks for all the advice everyone, I`ll have a look at all these options and go to a shop to have a look and see what one will best suit me, seems to be a few good options available.
