| | | Camera Question: AF with converters Hi everyone,
This is a question for one of the many technically gifted photographers out there!
Is it possible to get the auto focus to work when using a Canon EF 100-400IS lens with an EF 1.4 Mk II converter? I have heard a few rumours that it is possible but I have no idea how.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Chris
Ps - if it makes a difference, the camera is a 20D |

(but only because Graham - GLSammy told me)
Have a look at this link: D30/D60 Tips and Techniques
I've tried it on mine and it works

| | | Re: Camera Question: AF with converters different people seem to report very different levels of success with this technique. It works terribly on my 400mm prime, the AF hunts even in good light. My lens is basically MF only with the TC fitted. But others say it works well.

Matt | That's disappointing Matt. I know it works well on Andrews 100-400, so I assumed it would work just as well if not better on the 400mm prime. |

| | | Re: Camera Question: AF with converters I'm wondering whether it's because I went for a Kenko TC, supposed to be optically very similar but a quarter of the price of the Canon TC. I went for this because I'd already been told that the Canon doesn't work great so didn't want to risk £200. Or maybe TCs work better on the 100-400 lens than the 400 prime, I don't see why that would be though. Having said that, someone recently told me he only uses his Canon TC on MF on both his 100-400 and 400 prime because of AF hunting. One day I'll have to try a Canon TC and see if it's any better.

Matt | The one I had with my Bigma was also a Kenko. I couldn't get on at all with it, every shot was very soft at best. Maybe I'd be better trying a sigma one? If I could get one to give me half decent results, I'd have no need to buy another lens! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
