| | | Re: Camera Question: AF with converters My Kenko doesn't produce soft images, it's very sharp actually. And I've heard others using them successfully with Canon lenses. So I'm none the wiser. But I would have thought a Sigma TC would work OK with the 50-500, optically at least even if the AF isn't great.

| | | Re: Camera Question: AF with converters After advice by other photographers I went for the Canon 1.4 with my 100-400 IS USM and bearing in mind how much a novice I am you can see how good this piece of equipment is from seeing images I have taken in atrocious conditions.
Like others I have the required pins taped off and the the system still performs excellently.

Matt | Yep, with the Bigma I think I can forget AF. Not sure if that pin trick will work with that lens, but with the slower glass in the Bigma,(6.3) before using the TC, I can't imagine any form of AF will work. Maybe it's my lack of good close up vision that's the problem, although you do still get the focus affirm bleep, so it shouldn't matter. I'll have to see if I can borrow one one day to try again.
I only tried it when I first had the lens, it could easily have been me that was the problem, not the TC! |

Don't bother!

Don't bother! | This confirms what I had originally found! Thanks Oy! At least it means I can rest assured my decision to sell the adaptors was the right one.
Now I'll have to consider buying another lens again. |

Pretty well at least. There was a bit of hunting from time to time, but generally it was pretty quick. I'll try and post a few images of my weekend in Norfolk - I've read a few photographic trip reports from a few people recently, and they've been very interesting. I'm tempted to try one myself. |

| | | Re: Camera Question: AF with converters I too have the 100-400 canon pump. Cordless Dave has kindly lent me his 1.4 converter (Canon) today to try out. I shall be after the kingfisher across the river during next week to see how the taping and AF work.
Will post the results. Hope to go to Slimbridge in 3 weeks time and seek the bittern, inter alia.

| | | Re: Camera Question: AF with converters For some shots with the taped 1.4 and pump, have a look at a thread under Photography Critique etc "Diary of a morning walk - son of". For a better view of the pics, have a look in Forum Images.
Chris - how did your Norfolk pics turn out?

Colin | I was pretty pleased with them on the whole Colin. You can see a few on the following thread... http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/fo...k-weekend.html
I was looking at your pictures from your morning walk earlier and thought they looked very good - that taping up the contacts trick seemed to work pretty well! |
