| | | canon close-up lens I have a Canon Powershot A700. I only got it 9 months ago, when it was adequate for what I wanted. Now my subject priorities have changed and I want to improve my close-up shots.
It's possible to buy a close-up lens (and a zoom lens at some time later) for this model, would this be a worthwhile investment or would I be better saving for a better camera? Cost is a consideration.
Any thoughts on this will be much appreciated. |

For instance the panasonic FZ7 which is a brilliant bit of kit (and which I think has a very good close up mode- unless i'm confuddled) is widely available for under 200 notes

It is a very good camera.

I would save up and get myself a reasonable priced SLR (digital) camera and slowly build up your lenses as you require them, thats what I am doing. I look at the images on this site and try to understand what equipment is being used and the way the results are edited.
It is a minefield so good luck in your search.

Matt | well i stand corrected - i have an fz7 which i keep in the car for "emergencies" ie when fantastic shots present but my slr kit is at home but i have nver used it for close ups
as far as gooseys original question goes i think what advice is best will depend on what your interest is - if you are interested in photography as a hobby i would agree with martin get a dslr - however if you are priincpally a naturalist who just wants a photographic record of stuff you find then you might not want to spend that much cash (DSLR circa £400 - decent macro kit at least £200) and might be better off with a bridge camera such as the fuji. ( circa £250 depending on the model)
