| | | Car fridge ! Does anyone use one of these? A coolbox with a cooler built into the lid that runs off the car cigarette lighter.
They are available for around £50 up.
Reading the info they take 2 hours to reach coolness of 20 below ambient, but could be in a parked car with an internal temp of 30-40'C in the summer, and wouldn't be powered when parked.
It would be used when living 'out of the car' when on location, i.e. weekend wab meets, or week's in Scotland. Once I reach my destination I wouldn't expect to do much driving so I'm not sure there would be much advantage over a normal coolbox.
Anyone tried this?
Thanks

| | | Re: Car fridge ! they are generally only fan cooled so they mak an anoying noise - also if you try to leave the ignition on to power thwem while no moving you will flatten your battery quick smart.
personally i wouldnt bother - most camsite shops etc can sell you frozen blocks for a standard cookbag , often taking the unfrozen ones in part ex. or of course you could rent a pitch with power and use a little propper fridge

| | | Re: Car fridge ! The cheaper reputable boxes cut out before flattening the car battery but better buy a half decent Waeco which runs on Gas, 240V, or 12V.
12v to get there (after priming with cool blocks) then run it on gas in the wilds

| | | Re: Car fridge ! We have just got one but only for days out my hubby picked my son up from Uni and had the fridge on for about 8hrs (while driving to Swansea and back) on and off it kept the food cold.
But I wouldn't rely on it for weekends away but if you keep the lid shut it will keep cool I suppose. |

.....scroll to bottom to see it ........... Halfords | Coolboxes | Buy an Electric Coolbox
It's not a fridge! but it will keep things cool - it's insulated for when it's off. It will drain the battery - but not rapidly, an hour won't cause any problems. When we get a hot summer they're great. They'll keep your drinks cool, your chocie biscuits from melting, your milk sweet, cool your sandwiches.
Get a mains adaptor and you can run it in the room you're staying in.
Noise ? you can hear it, but it won't keep you awake. |

| | | Re: Car fridge ! I bought one but never plug it in. I just wanted one with decent capacity and top notch insulation and this one seemed to fit that bill. It's an Outwell 24 litre and you can run it either off 12v in the car or 240v if you have access to a socket on your travels.
What I do is fill two 1.5 litre mineral water bottles with tap water, freeze them and chuck them in the box. They take up a bit of room obviously but there's still space for milk, tinned drinks and a few rounds of sandwiches. I've used this on a three day jaunt in July, with the car parked and locked for long periods, and the bottles still had some ice in when I got home.
