| | | fishing umbrellas as hides? I was wondering whether anyone uses a fihing umbrella and sides ,the thing carp fisherman use Tents i suppose, as a means of a bird hide.
I was looking into getting a proper bird hide but the money a bit steep.
A fisherman friend came up with the idea , and thought id put my feelers out ?
Any advice will be recieved gratefully

| | | Re: fishing umbrellas as hides? I would imagine that one of the larger fishing umbrellas could conceivably be used, but think that you would need something like a suitably coloured wind break to create walls, or camo netting to cover it with so that you and your camera gear wouldn't be visible.
I think that the problem with fishing shelter type tents would be that they are relatively low in headroom, and might not lend themselves to convenient positioning of camera tripod etc.
As a relatively inexpensive alternative, perhaps something like this might be suitable: - The Tidy Tent - Camouflage finish: Amazon.co.uk: Garden & Outdoors
Not the most camouflaged of contraptions, but strewn with a camouflage net might provide a reasonable space to work in?
I suppose it would depend on whether you intend to set it up as a semi permanent hide, or whether you will need to carry it for any distance before erecting.
Regards,
Mike.

| | | Re: fishing umbrellas as hides? Cheers for that mike, it will be temporary.
Over the way from me is some open fields and some good /resonable places to see birds, and i was hoping to take some pictures etc, so something that is easy to carry.. i would imagine a fishing umbrella would be quiet heavy...
but thats again for the heads up, keeps me thinking.

| | | Re: fishing umbrellas as hides? all you need really is some scrim netting - check army surplus- and a hand bush/wall/fence or a couple of sticks. you just sit or lie down and drape the scrim over you using the support so it doesnt look human shaped.
also with decent camo like one of the realtree type designs you might not need a hide at all
