| | | Re: opticron hr 66 scope Not 100 per-cent helpful, but I have looked through the ED glass version and was very impressed. On the whole, I think Opticron scopes are pretty well received. Try it out and have a good go with it. I know cosmetics aren't really important, but it's a nice looking scope too!

| | | Re: opticron hr 66 scope My first scope was an Opticron HR 60 about 20 years ago.
They were good "entry level" 'scopes back then, and the newer versions hold their own as first 'scopes against todays competition.
As long as it has been looked after it should be fine after 8 years use (I had mine for about that long before up-grading). If you are able to try out a few other scopes before buying it might be worth doing though, just to see whether you find other types much easier to use (eg. Some people have difficulty using angled eye pieces, others much prefer them). Visit a reserve and ask birders if you can have a quick look through their 'scopes. |

| | | Re: opticron hr 66 scope Good luck with it NN, my HR60 is about 30 yrs old, with a 20-60 zoom and is still brilliant for all conditions, even low light (not quite Leica etc , but still fab) and its been around europe a few times, no problem.
A bit bashed now, but build quality and lens quality are right up there still, so will yours if its been looked after.
BTW, If anyone found the big lens cap at Heysham outflow hide in 1984, can you let me know please?
Cheers
Ken
