| | | Re: What is it i need please To be honest I thing most portable devices will be able to store and play bird songs.
I've a standard Nokia mobile phone with two full sets of bird songs on.
I bought a couple of sets of CDs with "bird calls of the UK".
You can hold them on a number of devices but I ripped them (converted them from CD format into .wav format) using CDEX. Then I transferred them to the phone using the USB cable and file drag and drop. Time consuming but straight forward.

| | | Re: What is it i need please If you aren't interested in the Sat Nav etc., and purely want something which will play bird songs, then any make of MP3 player will do the job.
No doubt the one this chap had was originally supplied without the bird songs on it, and he will have downloaded them to it in the form of an application software download - otherwise known as an "app.".
You could buy an MP3 player from any electrical appliance retailer, and you could then (via your computer) download to it several free downloads for birdsongs.
Just do an internet search for " bird songs mp3 ", and several will be found, including one from the BBC. (Obviously the exact method of downloading and subsequently playing the birdsongs will then depend on the model of MP3 player that you use)
EDIT - There are other such apps which cost two or three pounds. Some of these are just downloads (but not freebies), and others can be purchased in the form of CD's.
Regards,
Mike.

Can I just put in a little aside here. I believe that playing birdsong TOO the birds during the breeding season is a very dangerous and disruptive thing to do. Birds always look for a territory away from other birds of their species, and if they hear what they think is a rival close by, they will often leave a newly chosen site. |

| | | Re: What is it i need please its called "tape luring" and I think you may have just 'opened a can of worms', as it can generate a lot of ill feeling. Some people are for it and some against and when it is being used passions can run high and I have seen arguments and threats when it has been used.
One thing to also remember is tape luring is illegal in some circumstances so be careful when and where you use it. |

| | | Re: What is it i need please And the moral of the second above post gobbiner is, for God's sake don't don't wander about the countryside whistling or you might be responsible for decimating the whole population of Great Britain's bird life . . .
