davew | I have an Olympus E500 which I have found to be very good. However the choice of lenses is very limited. I used it mainly with a Sigma 55-100mm lens and obtained reasonable images.(see some of my images in the Gallery) However I have since moved on to a Canon 400D with a Sigma 100-300mm f4 lens and 1.4 EX TC.
Other than the very limited availability of lenses the E500 is a very useful camera. However with the Olympus kit lenses it is a very good buy. Just depends on what you are going to be using it for. Long Zooms at reasonable prices are not readily available. Sigma have yet to make their Bigma (50-500mm lens) available for the 4/3 mount in the UK

John D | Sigma have now announced a good range of lenses for the E500. The 50-500mm Bigma and the 150mm Macro to name just a couple. |

John D | Yes John, it must be frustrating. They can't be far off now though, Warehouse Express are now showing them as pre-order, which must hopefully mean they're somewhere near. I wonder why it's taken so long? I wonder if the sensor crop factor is proving difficult to work with?
I certainly would consider the E500 with a 50-500mm. To have an equivalent 1,000mm zoom lens is VERY tempting. |

| | | Re: Olympus dslrs? Recall seeing advert for 35mm f2.8 macro, which on 4/3rds would double up to 70mm and ideal portrait lens too. The price? £149 - bargain! |

| | Re: Olympus dslrs? With the use of the manual adaptor, I use a55mm f1.2 = 110m f1.2 and
90mm f2 macro = 180mm f2 macro plus 2x convertor and extension tubes. This is all OM kit I have collected over the years.
I use a E300 and have just got hold of an E1.
The image quality is superb, it is just the operator who lets it down.
cheers

| | Re: Olympus dslrs? Sorry, just thoght, if I had the 1000mm f11 om lens, then theoretically with a 2x convertor,
I would have a 4000mm f16, if my maths are correct. An interesting possibility but a bit
cumbersome to use.

| | | Re: Olympus dslrs? I been using a E1 and E300 for a couple of years now, I prefer my E300 over the E1 and I reckon it takes better photographs. However I invested quite a bit of money in Olympus lenses with ED glass.
The Olympus 50mm ED Macro is a lovely lens for general close-up work, I also have the 50-200 Zoom (again ED glass). The 50-200 is a great lens for photographing Dragonflies etc (remember x 2 on the 4/3rd sensor, so the 50mm is equal to 100mm on 35mm film format etc etc).
I've tried Sigma lenses (4/3rds) but honesty wasn't all that impressed, granted Olympus lenses are damn expensive, but I honestly beleive the extra expense of purchasing Olympus ED lenses to be well worthwhile.
Generally I found the Olympus kit lenses to be of poor quality, I ended up selling all of mine on a well known auction site. |

| | | Re: Olympus dslrs? Very interested on your comments re E300 picture quality. I shoot tiff and find very little to choose between the two models.
I find the white balance on the E1 much more reliable than the E300 unless you use the E300built in flash, which is perfect for macro.
Any comment appreciated ( if you read my previous, you will see that I use manual lenses for macro work.See Gallery and comment, please )

Hey guys,am 2 use an Olympus E500 find that is nicer and much better than the previouse E300 I have before,I got my self an adapter on Ebay so I can use Pentax lenses on it ,It only work on aperture priorite and manual focus but that is good because my Pentax lense is a micro so with a tripod is just perfect, the only thing missing is a flash for it,Any of you guys can recomend a flash suitable for that camera?Sigma dont seem to make them for Olympus
