I'm interested in buying a pair of these. Would you recommend any particular make?

| | | Re: Snow-chains, Socks and Cleats (or why are we the laughing stock of europe) After that particularly bad fall of snow 09/10 we changed to a Freelander , have 3 elderly parents/inlaws 84/5 yrs living in fairly remote spots in peak distict .
The landrover has been very useful in the heavy snow and I doubt we could have assisted them without it on occasions .
Road tax & diesel not cheap but worth it for piece of mind.

If this weather is to become the pattern then winter tyres are certainly the way to go as soon as the temperatures drop under 7C, not just for snow. I'll be investing in some next winter - gave up this winter as everywhere was out or had nothing in the size I needed. I see Kwik-Fit have started a scheme where they will fit winter tyres and put your summer tyres in storage for you, ready to be refitted in the spring - that's a move in the right direction.
Still, from what I have seen out and about during the bad weather, it's not so much the getting going that is the problem, but the stopping. I still had idiots sitting right on my bumper on icy roads because I was keeping my speed down. They just don't realise that the stopping distances can more than double in bad conditions. |

Ta,
Deb | Hi Deb
I got some called AutoSock - they're imported by a company in Sedbergh in the Yorkshire Dales. If you Google AutoSock Sedbergh you should find them.
Rob

| | | Re: Snow-chains, Socks and Cleats (or why are we the laughing stock of europe) I remembered that many years ago I used a product that was basically pine resin in a can. No good for long distances but good enough to get you out of side roads and onto the cleared main roads. It does not harm tyres and is easy to apply Spray On Tyre Chain
