| | | Re: Warm wellies you can walk in? I can also recommend Le Chameau. Quite pricey but I've had a pair of these - Le Chameau - a natural heritage - for several years now. Neoprene and thermo material lined and with a proper Vibram walking boot sole. Warm, comfy and giving excellent grip - I've walked miles in them

| | | Re: Warm wellies you can walk in? I have Hunter Sovereigns. Not cheap but you can walk for miles in them and they are proper toasty. Brown too, so look a little different.
And you can get them resoled, but I reckon they'd be good for years. BushWear: Hunter Sovereign Brown Wellingtons

The garden centre only sells Hunters out of the makes recommended on this thread. So it might be mail order.
Not decided yet, but thanks for all your help people.

Hi Cowgirl, Interesting comparison of Noras and Muckboot. What is 'tack type' please?
Deb | Hi Deb, Tack is just a variety of Muckboot, the ones I know of are Esk, Tack, Derwent & Tay (I think) each type has varying attributes. As previously stated, hubby chose Esk because of it's grip on concrete as well as mud. I used to have Tack (which apparently are popular with a lot of horsey people), as they are comfy & also good for riding in, but the sole isn't as gripping on wet muddy hillsides, as I found out to my cost as I occasionally came back muddier than the dogs .

| | | Re: Warm wellies you can walk in? Someone earlier said about the advantage of having wellies that would dry out quickly if they got wet inside.
That is certainly something to think about as I discovered yesterday .
There is a ditch two fields up above our house which when the snow starts to melt has a nasty tendency to clog and overflow directing all the water down to our house. I checked it out yesterday and it was doing it again so dashed home for help from OH and then we went back up and started digging. Me starting from the top to direct the water down the ditch and OH digging below to make a channel for it. Of course I misjudged the edge of the ditch and got my leg stuck. Had to pull my foot out of the welly and try and pull the damn welly out. Managed to break a snow shovel doing that, by which time the welly was full of water and I thought I'd never get it out. Quicksand has got nothing on snow rapidly absorbing water. Did eventually pull it free and stop the water from flooding us again but my welly is still drying out . |

| | | Re: Warm wellies you can walk in? I won't swear to it but I think 'tack' means that the wellie boot has a small heel - like a leather riding boot, which means there is a space for the stirrup to sit into, giving you leaverage to ride .........
I have a pair here but they were a waste of money (I don't ride!) but I thought they would be a good fit for all day and comfortable - they are anything but! They're cold, too tight fitting and the 'heel' is downright painful for walking - plus they don't grip either in muddy conditions - and diabolical on ice ........... for riding a horse they are probably perfect!! |

Once the water is flowing in the right direction then the house is safe, so I don't care about a wet welly or creaking joints lol. Mind you the welly is still sodden . |

| | | Re: Warm wellies you can walk in? go to a shootin', huntin' an' fishin' shop and try a few pairs of different makes. Neoprene is nice but tends to be a tad 'oily' I find, rubber 'brittles' and composite stuff can be sometimes cold initially. It's personal choice, don't just buy the most expensive no matter what hype the salesperson gives you. They should be comfy, warm and large enough for thermal socks. Wide in the toes helps in muddy conditions. And lets you waggle those toesies. Others will say differently. all a matter of personal choice as I said.

Tried all of these and I use a pair of Russski winter wellies costing (then, 10 years ago) £4 still got 'em and I can't seem to wear them out.
