| | | Scope Cleaning Has anyone got any tips on cleaning the lens of a scope. My scope tends to get a layer of grease? like an iridescence on the lens. I do a lot of seawatching and think that the sea spray may do it. Any advice, good ways of cleaning the lense. Its quite an expensive lense so I didnt want to go and use hot soapy water, of fair liquid for example without someone saying whats ok first.
Thankyou DH. |

| | | Re: Scope Cleaning I had a kit "sight savers?" which had a spray and a roll of one-use pre moistened tissues. It may have been by Bausch and Lomb and I used it on my expensive telescopic sight.

| | | Re: Scope Cleaning When I went to my local Nikon pro dealer for a filter for the big lens I asked them the same question. He produced a pack of Carl Zeiss lens cleaning cloths which are pre-moistened and sealed in a foil pouch, and proceeded to demonstrate how to use them on his own lens!
I ended up buying this kit AF Carl Zeiss Camera Cleaning Kit of Brush Lens Cloth: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics
with a number of pouches in and also some spare pouches. Actually I've only ever used the pouches so far. Let me know if you need anymore detail.
Oh, and he told me not to use washing up liquid as it has too much salt in...

| | | Re: Scope Cleaning Whatever you use to clean it with, don't forget to get as much of the dust of first. If your sea watching the salty spray can contain very fine sand particles and these can scratch your lens as you try cleaning it. |

| | | Re: Scope Cleaning I have always used Mineralised Methalated spirits on my Telescope. I bought a bottle from my Chemist 5 years ago and an atomizer bottle, this gives a fine spray. It is great for flushing the lens and area and evaporates quickly. Finish off by using a dry lens cleaning cloth
Think Safety, open space and ware goggles please.
