| | | Bressar spotting scope Hi. I am looking at a spotting scope. Not in the price league of Leica or Swarovski. Has any one used the Bresser Pirsch 25-75x100 45° Spotting Scope. The other two I came across are Konuspot-20-60x 100 Spotting Scope and the Yukon 6-100x100.
As you can see I am trying to go for the largest objective. Since the quality of the lens will not be comparable to the high end scopes, I hope increasing the size of the objective will reduce the difference to a degree.
The other aspect I am not sure of is zooming. I have not liked zooming binoculars in the past. Will the light cut-off be as dramatic in scopes or is it improved by the size of the objective?
Thanks for your help. |

| | | Re: Bressar spotting scope Can't comment on the scopes you have mentioned but I have a 80mm scope with a zoom eyepice that gives 20 - 60x magnification.
There is some dropping off of light at 60x, but it appears to be very close to 60x before I notice anything.
I think you are correct in saying the bigger objective has an effect. The exit pupil will be bigger so there is more light.

| | | Re: Bressar spotting scope I don`r know what they are like these days but at one time Bresser took over that section on E-bay. There were the loads of warnings from unsatisfed buyers who gad problems with the products misting up and Bresser were not responding to their attempts to contact them.

Thanks for your help. | I'd try to find a good 2nd hand scope rather than buy a new cheaper model. I'm guessing the Bresser Pirsch is around £390? My mate recently bought a Kowa TSN 823 for £480, a quality scope for only £90 more. I bought a Kowa TS 614 as a travel scope a few years ago for £170, it's only 60mm but will give you a better image than the Bresser. Basically, cheap glass will give you an inferior image, no matter how big the objective lens is.
These scopes get good reviews - Celestron Regal 80 F-ED, you could pick one up new for £480, there's a company selling them at £412 but I'd check them out before purchasing.
I'd save up a little longer if necessary, rather than buy something you'll never really be happy with.
Cheers
