| | | Bag for Sigma 50-500 lens + camera If anybody is looking for a zoom type bag, to carry their Sigma 50-500 with camera attached, + hood reversed, and tripod collar attached, I can recommend the Tamrac 5629 pro digital zoom 9. It comes with a bio curved non slip strap, with attachment points for their SAS (strap accessory system), it also has MAS (modular accessory system) attachment points on the body of the bag. A zippered pocket in the lid, as well as a front zippered pocket with pockets inside for memory cards and batteries. In my opinion tamrac are as well made as lowepro, but you seem to get more for your money.
I also have other tamrac bags, a photo rucksack, their largest shoulder bag, and others, all are top quality, I also have a couple of lowepro, which will be going on ebay.
Hope this may be of help to some one, Bert |

| | | Re: Bag for Sigma 50-500 lens + camera Thanks for posting Bert. I was asking for info about protecting my Sigma 50-500mm lense, but I was not actually looking for a bag. I need a cover for the lense, that I can use to keep out rain and dust, while I am using the camera. I will have a look at Tamrac, and see if they do anything that may be suitable. Thanks again for your post. |

a cheaper alternative is a pair of hiking gaiters. I bought a pair off ebay, I think they were about £5.00 including post. They are the camo pattern, elasticated top and bottom, and fasten by velcro and presstuds. I have to admit I have never used them, for hiking, or on the camera, Bert |

| | | Re: Bag for Sigma 50-500 lens + camera Its the sort of item that would be extremely easy to knock up yourself with a bit of camo, or other fabric and velcro. You jusy need the initial pattern which would consist of the circumference of the camera end of the lens, then the circumference of the lens hood end of the lens and then the length of the lens, remembering better lose than too tight (that is what the velcro is for) and to allow some 'give' for the area around the tripod mount. I reckon I could knock one up in 15 minutes, but then I did used to make my own trousers. An old dear could do this for you in no time

| | | Re: Bag for Sigma 50-500 lens + camera The most important factor is the fabric. It has to be lint free. The one I bought is nylon inside so no lint comes off and gets sucked in.
It was manufactured by WWS and really is a lovely cover

| | | Re: Bag for Sigma 50-500 lens + camera A large plasic bag with the end cut off and secured to the body of the lens with an elastic band. Keep it attached to as near to the end of the lens as you can and use a UV filter. It has worked for me for many years. It is lint free, costs nothing and is easily replaced. Don't use it for underwater photography, only to keep light rain off your equipment! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
