What I've discovered this year which seems to keep clegs away as well is "Stop Bite", which is made by a Scottish company using Bog Myrtle as the main base, it smells quite pleasant.
I've been using it this summer, and no cleg bites at all so far, even though I've been in some really cleggy areas at times. I'm off to Mull for a few days next week, so will see how it performs against the midges.

| oooh, I might have to try that one. They're just as much of a problem as midges are for me, hanging about in Welsh Upland streams as I do! I react more badly to their bites too |

I wonder if it really is ineffective. Is it possible that you can get swarms of the innocuous males and this explains why people sometimes don't get bitten? It's just co-incidental that they are using SSS, but they claim that it's giving them protection.
It's no good saying that it works for some people but not others, otherwise what's the special factor in people that in combination with SSS gives protection?
SSS doesn't 'work for me' - it's just an unpleasantly slimy gunge that adds to the discomfort of being bitten!

Jim | Jim this is absolutely not true, Skin So Soft works for some people including myself, I guarantee it and the theory about "innocuous males" is way off the mark you can be in a swarm of midgies and going demented with the bites and use SSS and they stop biting, it's that simple. It is a dry oil body spray and in my first summer up here nearly a decade ago (so Iv'e had some experience of midgies) i was getting through half a bottle a week and my skin was no softer. I think it creates an oily film on the skin for some people and soaks into the skin on others and doesn't work, it could be about pore size. It doesn't work for my husband, he uses Jungle juice.
Put it on twice in the first half hour and if it still doesn't work then don't use it if you don't like the oil or the smell. |
