The Baton is a Frequency Division Detector. This means frequency is divided by 10 so it can be heard through the speakers and recorded with conventional recorders and computer sound cards

Specialist software (batscan?) is set up for just displaying bat sounds and usually changes the numbers on the Sonogram to indicate the actual frequency of the bat

Audacity is as superb bit of free software. I use it to quickly look through large files, and make edits to the sound file. For me the most common use is 'deleting' the Heterodyne recording to the left channel. This leaves me with only the right channel which I save as mono, reducing the file size by half

Favourite software for viewing sonograms is wavesurfer. Not created for bat analysis so a detailed guide has been created showing how to set it up.
