My advice would be to have a play at an "In Focus" or Jessops branch and you may get a "feel" for the image quality of all the cheaper scopes. One or two will give a brighter image than the others. These are the ones to consider, though they may be more than you have budgeted for.
My Opticron cost more than I thought I wanted to pay, but it gave me many years of great service and became extremely good value for money. (just a few pence a week )
Then I upgraded to "Hubble" and I now tend to look for birds in the next County

| | | Re: Cheap Scopes Hello, just joined this group amd came across this thread.
In defence of centon may I say how happy I am with my Jessops Centon 20 - 60 x 62 spootting scope. I have had it for a year now, use it most weekends, and it is excellent. Not as good as the top end scopes, I grant you. But the images and performance is fine for me at a fraction of the price.
I had the chance to compare it next to an Opticron with an HDF eyepiece and yup the Opticron was better, but not £450 better. Talking very minor improvements in what my eyes could see and those of the Opticron seller who was a really decent honest chap.
So, if anyone has a spare Centon scope going, well, SPARE? And you want to off load this piece of junk/self defence item/door stop, (LOL) let me know and I will happily do you a favour. At only £70 on cameras 4u they are a bargain. IMHO.
cheers
